Crossed Paths on the Burke-Gilman
The fight over widening the Burke-Gilman trail in Lake Forest Park is once again becoming messy. That part of the trail just can't stay out of court or out of the papers. People hate it. People love it. People fight it. People fight for it. The city at one point wanted to dig out the pavement because "it ruined the environment" (King County - who owns the route - said No). Regular monitoring by LFP Police keeps riders on the trail from crossing against traffic. The pain inflicted by this trail clearly outweighs its roughly 1.6 mile footprint. Now biologists are calling an alarm that the trail might compromise the habitat of salamanders.
Where's the balance point? Why is this section so hard to keep happy? What really irks me in all this is you have two sides who are wanting to do the right thing, but neither side is able to completely come to terms with the other.
